Angelo Mangiarotti vintage glass links chandelier for Vistosi, 1960`s ca, Italy. Consists of 68 original hand blown clear & light green Murano glass links that hook onto a chrome & white lacquered frame. This is a rare example because the glass link`s shape are like twisted ribbon and have a texturized surface creating a lightness, a sense of movement while beautifully reflecting the light. The top band shape links are larger and different in shape from the ribbon ones at the bottom, finishing and framing the form of the chandelier at the top. The chains of glass ribbon links are interconected by circular chrome rings adding texture to the piece. These metal rings can be opened by hand to move the links around to create other colour combinations on the different chains. The top row of 6 pivotal lamp holders rotate in various directions to create different effects and angles. There is one down lighter lamp holder at the bottom. All 7 lamp holders carry standard big screw light bulbs up to 60 Watts each.  The decorative original chrome ceiling cup finishes the bar at the top, and can be adjusted up/down the rod.  For different looks the bar can be shortened, lengthened or replaced with a chain. The chrome & white lacquered frame is in very good condition with minor patina consistent with age. All the glass links are in excellent condition. Disassembles for easy transport. Newly rewired and in full working order.

Full dimensions:
The H of the frame without the bar is 70 cm.
Each glass link is H:12 cm, W:7 cm, D: 7 cm.

Angelo Mangiarotti (1921 - 2012) graduated from the Milan Politechnic. In 1953 he moved to the United States for a two year period as professor for the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago. During this time he worked with modernists masters such as Frank Lloyd Wright & Mies van der Rohe. After two decades teaching in Europe he founded the design firm Mangiarotti & Associates based in Tokyo. Mangiarotti’s designs focused on the essential characteristics of every object with the form following the quality of the material. This is exemplified by the glass chains of this chandelier.

Vistosi, dating back to the 15th Century, has been one of the premier Venetian Murano glass manufacturers. The present Vistosi company was founded in 1945. Their designs of the 60`s & 70`s anticipated both Minimalism and 80`s excess. Using white or completely translucent glass shifted the emphasis on the elongated, curvaceous or bulbous form as in this chandelier.
