Boudoir lamps, pair of ceramic ladies table lamps, 1950`s ca, France. Very decorative pair consisting of ceramic dolls hand painted with gold gilt detail on a steel frame as mannequins. Each lamp is fitted with a contemporary black shade with gold lining. Each takes a single standard bayonet large light bulb up to 100 Watts (40 Watts each maximum with these shades). Also photographed with a silver crown light bulb for an industrial look. These 1950`s lamps are fully rewired with silver silk cable and a switch at the lamp holder. Both are in full working order and very good condition. These vintage lamps sell together as a pair. The price is for the pair.
These 1950`s ceramic lamps are reminiscent of vintage boudoir dolls which were made to grace the beds of grown ladies rather than children. From about 1910 through the 50`s, boudoir dolls with beautifully painted with distinct make-up and lavish lace gowns or silk pajamas were popular. Many times the owner added some of their own hair to create a `look alike` doll. The dolls were sold in the lobbies of hotels for traveling salesmen to gift to their wife and therefore were a sign of wealth & culture. Dolls were made to reflect famous actresses however the most sought after are early French dolls in the Art Deco style especially those smoking cigarettes.
