Charles Hollis Jones table, Lucite with gilt detail and glass shelf, 1980`s ca, American.

This coffee table has been gently cleaned while respecting the vintage patina; it is ready to use.

The playful use of Lucite, bevelled edges to refract light and the gold plated gilt detailing are characteristic of the work of Charles Hollis Jones, the attributed designer of this coffee table.

The strong geometric Neoclassical forms & proportions in clear reflective Lucite keep this design light & Modern. This sculptural coffee table would suit a range of interiors such as Art Deco, Modernist, Hollywood Regency, 1970`s glamour, Postmodern, Contemporary or Industrial.

Structurally the base consists of 4 curving Lucite legs held together by an octagonal gold plated frame. This also serves as the lower shelf. The legs have a scrolling ribbon like shape which creates movement, enhanced by the tapering at the top of each leg. Playfully there is a gilt scrolling pattern covering the junction of the shelf and each leg. It is here that the frame & legs are securely held together with gilt bolts.

On the legs sits the original hexagonal glass top with bevelled edges. This bevelling is 20 mm wide and the glass has a thickness of 8 mm. There are 2 small decorative clear rubber stoppers on each legs holding the glass in place. The lower hexagonal clear glass surface repeats the design as the top however it is not bevelled and has a thickness of 6 mm.

The glass tops can be separated from the base as can the legs making this table easy to dismantle for cleaning or transporting.

This vintage coffee table is in very good condition. The frame is sound and strong. The gilt is in good condition with minor rubbing in places in line with age and wear as photographed. The Lucite is in very good condition with no chips or cracks and only a few superficial marks in line with age. The main glass top is in very good condition with only 2 tiny rough bits around the edge hardly visible (as photographed). The glass shelf is in perfect condition.

Packing is offered free of charge. We take special professional care while packing. The glass tops would be removed and wrapped separately in bubble wrap and an outer layer of card. The frame would have bubble wrap and an outer layer of card. If necessary the legs could be easily unscrewed. This table would fit easily in a box for safe shipping.

Additional dimensions:

The Height of the shelf from the floor is 15cm

The shelf surface has a Width of 100 cm, and Depth of 40 cm.

The storage space from the bottom shelf to the glass top is 24 cm.
