Coro heart pin, vermeil gold gilt sterling silver, Adolph Katz, 1950`s ca, USA. This sterling silver Coro heart brooch consists of a heart with red glass cabouchons pierced by a sword which is decorated with green glass cabouchons and blue baguettes. Vermeil is sterling silver coated with gold. To be considered vermeil, the gold must be at least 10 carat (42%) and be at least 2.5 micrometres thick. Vermeil was used in the 1940`s when metal resources were limited and this is part of it`s appeal to collectors.
Adolph Katz was design director at Coro from 1924. He made major contributions to the company`s success in particular their brooches of Jelly Bellies & Duettes.
