Vintage Queen Elizabeth II & Prince Philip Coronation 1953 commemorative pair bookends, gilt bronze, English.

These vintage items have been gently cleaned while respecting the aged patina. They are ready to use.

Presented here is an original vintage pair of bookends made for the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953.

With the regal theme & sculptural presence, these bookends would suit a range of interiors such as Antique, Country, Traditional, Hollywood Regency, Post Modern, Industrial or Contemporary.

The design is classic, elegant and decorative. Each bookend is in solid gilt bronze. Although they are unmarked, the quality & detail of the cast is superb.

One bookend depicts Queen Elizabeth II & the other Prince Philip. The vertical shape is round with a pedestal base. The front of the Queen`s base says `Elizabeth R` (R for Regina), Philip`s base says `Philip`.

Each tridimensional portrait surrounded by a hammered effect background. Laurel wreath decorations at either side, a symbol of victory, plus two sitting lions finish the design. The lions as symbols of nobility, royalty, courage, valour and strength.

Great exquisite attention to detail in both portraits & the lions, such as in the Queen`s face, hair & crown & Prince Philip`s face & clothes.

These bookends have a good weight and each solid bronze figure is individually quality cast.

These bookends sell together and the price is for the pair. The books are for display only and not included in the sale.

Both vintage bookends are in very good condition for its age. The original vintage patina has been preserved. The bronze sculptures are in very good condition & sound with no damages, the original warm antique patina present adding character. Minor superficial marks & rubbing in line with age & wear.

Packing is offered free of charge. We take special professional care while packing. For safe transport each bookend would be wrapped separately in bubble wrap, foam and an outer layer of card. These would be stacked together and boxed with loose fill packing nuts, safe for posting with a courier. We ship with reliable couriers (signed for, tracked & insured).

QUEEN ELIZABETH II CORONATION 1953 HISTORY

The coronation of Elizabeth II as Queen of the United Kingdom and the other Commonwealth realms took place on 2 June 1953 at Westminster Abbey in London. She acceded to the throne at the age of 25 upon the death of her father, George VI, on 6 February 1952.  The coronation was held more than one year later.  Norman Hartnell was commissioned by the Queen to design the outfits for all members of the Royal Family, including Elizabeth`s coronation gown. It was the first British coronation to be fully televised.
Many commemorative objects were produced at the time, all becoming now very collectable & sought after since Queen Elizabeth`s passing in 2022.
