Empire basket chandeliers with faceted crystals,a pair in the French Art Nouveau style, 1970`s ca France. These large traditional hanging style basket chandeliers are exactly matching and both were originally fitted together from the same house.
Matching vintage chandeliers are rare to find and highly sought after for contemporary settings. Each
consists of two brass crowns connected by a canopy of crystals. The
circular brass crowns screw horizontally to the frame attached to arms which are at the top and center. Each crown is decorated with large octagonal crystals and finished with strands of three crystals.
At the bottom there are seven stepped
tiers of crystal strands. The entire piece is finished with a weighty faceted
crystal ball. The hand cut lead crystals reflect a diversity of colours and soften the light source. Takes 9 big standard bayonet light bulbs up to 40 Watts each; 6 lamp holders are fitted horizontally at the center, and 3 facing down from the top. There is a solid brass ceiling cup with a hook to fit to the ceiling. The chain can be shortened or lengthened for different lengths as well as tucked away for easy transport in a box.
The quality brass frame is in very good condition with the original aged brass patina which gives character. All the crystals are in very good condition.
Both chandeliers are newly re
wired, in full working order and ready to use. This pair of vintage chandeliers sell together and the price is for the pair.
Height of the frame alone without the chain is 74 cm.
The history of the empire basket chandelier is embedded in architectural history. It`s classic appearance is seen in palaces and state buildings.
The elongated shape makes it ideal for high ceilings and a traditional stairwell.
