Fiber optic wall light, fiber optic art with changing illumination, 1960`s ca, USA.
This 1960`s wall light with its ever changing psychedelic kaleidoscope pattern is very decorative and characteristic of the experimental period between the late 60`s/early 70`s. Illuminated multiple spray patterns of fiber optics stand out from the contrasting black background set in a square chrome frame with glass.
The illumination varies across the piece and
changes over time. There are varied cycles of blue, red, purple, white & green which creates a great sense of movement as an art installation. The piece looks equally smart when switched off because of the neutral black & silver tones. On the back, the cover unscrews in which there is a simple & cleverly designed motor spinning a colour wheel illuminated by a small spotlight. Takes one standard 6 Volt 20 Watt spotlight on the back which is easy to replace. Screws to the wall though two holes in the back of the frame. The chrome frame is in good condition with some patina in line with age and confirms the originality of this piece. Electrically earthed, in full working order & ready to use.
