Giovanni Schoeman sculpture of an Angel Fish in cold-cast bronze, Brutalist style, 1970`s ca, English.
In this Schoeman sculpture the elongated forms of the Angel Fish are exagerated with sequences of stamping and building up the metals.
The Angel Fish is deconstructed into core parts with severe geometric representation typical of the Brutalist fashion of the period.
Made from `Cold Cast Metal`; a technique developed in the 1960`s where metal powder is set within a resin binder. In this sculpture artistic layers of bronze, copper and white metal are detailed with icons such as the sun, stars and leaves, all brought together with a wide range of scrolling patterns. The attention to detail and crisp finish are
exemplary
of Schoeman`s creative & technical ability.
After the casting this piece was signed by Giovanni below the fish`s mouth. Framed on the original Hessian background and brass plated metal frame. The frame hangs onto the wall by two hooks fitted in the back. The sculpture is in perfect condition. There is minor rubbing to the Hessian as photographed in the lower portion. The brass frame has minor flaking to the finish in line with age.
Another Schoeman sculpture of the period appeared in the first series of the TV programme Mad Men as photographed.
