This vintage painting & frame are both in the original vintage condition.
Oil on board signed and
dated to verso `JUDITH DRURY 1969`,
in its original vintage pitch pine frame.
The large size of this painting, together with the Surrealist theme and mood tones, would suit a range of interiors from Traditional to Contemporary.
This painting is part of her Puppet Series, a range of oil paintings in the Surreal Style with clowns, puppets, jesters, all set in distorted perspectives & architecture schemes.
In this Surrealist painting the eye is attracted to three chess pieces: a horse & 2 pons. They are strangely positioned on a check board of greens & mustard. In the background there appears to be a mirror which may explain the distorted reflection & positions. Perhaps the horse is a reflection of the viewer. Interesting directional light from the left plus accents of red, both draw attention to the chess pieces and adds depth, together with the
use of heavy oil brush strokes on one of the black pons.
The moody dark colour tones add to the mystery of the subject.
The painting`s oil surface has the original vintage patina and has not been cleaned. It is in good condition for its age with no cuts or holes, only minor loses to the paint in places (as photographed). The frame is sound, and has the original vintage patina and minor marks in line with age & wear.
