Kinkeldey large wall lights/sconces, gold plated gilt frames with 46 faceted crystals, 1970`s ca, German.
This pair of wall lights have the extra glam factor having previously been owned by Popstar Kylie Minogue from her London home. Documentation of this provenance is provided.
These lights have been gently cleaned respecting the aged patina. Both are newly rewired, earthed, PAT tested by an electrician, fully working and ready to install. It is possible to use these lights in other countries although it may be necessary to purchase different light bulbs suitable to local electricity. They can be used with a dimmer.
This Kinkeldey design is of exceptionally large proportions with a height of 68 cm. The 46 crystals appear to float from the gold plated frame which glimmers from behind. This effect is enhanced by the clear rectangular crystals multifaceted to beautifully reflect the light.
This Modernist design with luxury materials, crystal & gilt, would suit a range of interiors such as Art Deco, Traditional, Hollywood Regency, Minimalist or Contemporary.
Each frame is a rectangular gold plated brass plate with 5 curved tiers. The biggest tier is at the centre and suspends 7 crystals. Either side there are 2 medium tiers, each with 5 crystals, and 2 small tiers each with 3 crystals. There are 23 crystals per sconce and 46 all together. The crystals are lead quality with a good weight and hand polished.
The crystals have a hole at the top to slide on the pegs of the frame. They are secured by 2 rubber washers either side and a golden finial that screws to the peg. The crystals can be removed for transport & cleaning.
Each wall light has 10 lamp holders facing down with brass covers for standard small screw light bulbs (E14) up to 40 Watts. Presently fitted & photographed with clear Pygmy shaped light bulbs of 25 Watts. These are included in this price. It is also possible to use other E14 bulb shapes.
At the back of each light there is the original black metal wall bracket with holes to fit to the wall. When the bracket is screwed to the wall, the golden base slides on and screws over the bracket through 4 decorative brass screws, 2 on each side. There are 4 extra holes, probably a later addition, to screw the brass frame at different heights from the plate. One brass frame has on the top a small portion cut out probably to allow a wire to pass.
This pair of sconces are in good vintage condition. The frames are sound with no damages or missing parts. The gilt & clear lacquer on the brass on both frames is in very good condition with a warm patina and superficial marks in line with age.
All the 46 crystals are the original vintage to the sconces. One third of the crystals are perfect while the rest have wear such as tiny nibbles or small chips. Six crystals have slightly larger chips and one has been restored (glued) as in the last photograph. Because of the faceted quality of the crystals, these chips can hardly be seen when the composition is put together.
These lights sell together and the price is for the pair.
