Lobmeyr Lighting

Added 07 February 2014 at 22:03

Viennese chandelier manufacturer Lobmeyr has just celebrated 190 years in business.

Opened in 1823 by Joseph Lobmeyr and continuously run through six generations, the company has seen many firsts. In 1883, the company worked in partnership with Thomas Edison to make the first electric crystal chandelier for the Vienna Imperial Palace.  The company was also the first ever to use Swarovski crystals featured in their post war designs like this gold gilt Lobmeyr chandelier which has recently arrived at Roomscape.

Lobmeyr exhibited at the 1925 Parisian “Exposition des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes” and was awarded the Grand Prix.  Lobmeyr chandeliers can be found in Royal palaces, the Kremlin, the Vienna State Opera, New York’s Metropolitan Opera, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Bergdorf Goodman Department Store and London’s Wolseley Restaurant.

Vienna’s Liechtenstein Palace chose Lobmeyr for the restoration of twenty historic crystal chandeliersm a project which is expected to last throughout 2014.

The Lobmeyr Store on Vienna’s historic Kärntner Straße is the first place to find their wares. The shop was built in 1895 and is the last "originally kept" shop remaining in Vienna. The company also exhibits at Paris` Maison & Objet fair and the 100% Design exhibition in London.

At Roomscape we feature a range of vintage Lobmeyr lighting. Be the first to know about our new arrivals by subscribing to our monthly newsletter.
