Maison Charles by Philippe Parent (attributed), large brass coffee table, 1970`s, French.

This coffee table has been gently cleaned while respecting the vintage patina. It is ready to use.

This vintage coffee table, with its minimalist design, angular lines and detailed corners has features of the designs by Philippe Parent, the attributed designer. Primarily an architect, Philippe Parent contributes to Interior Design, and designing furniture & lighting. He often collaborates with Maison Charles of Paris.

Geometric, sculptural & elegant this table would complement a range of interiors such as Art Deco, Hollywood Regency, Brutalist, 70`s Glamour, Post Modern, Industrial or Contemporary.

In this design the minimal frame is literally twisted to become a new form: simple & intriguing. The highly polished brass frame is tubular with a square profile. By shifting the frame the angle projects outwards. The result is futuristic and gives the design a sense of movement.

The frame is made up of 4 brass tubes, each shaped continuously to make the leg. It is at each corner where the detail puzzles the mind. Angular bends in the brass tubing appear to `point` to each corner. Each leg is made up of two tubes side by side with a thin gap running in between. This directs attention to the detailed corner. The two parts to each leg are held discreetly at the back with a solid brass piece bridging the gap; one at the top and one at the bottom.

On the backside of each corner there is a vertical column in solid brass which raises to support the glass top. Above each column the glass top rests on a white plastic peg inserted into the frame. The glass is held in place securely. The glass is clear beveled and 10 mm thick. At each corner the angle of the beveling complements the detailed corner.

This vintage coffee table is in very good condition. The frame is sound & strong. The polished brass surfaces are in very good condition with the original clear lacquer present. It has a warm antique patina in places in line with age. The quality glass top is the original to the piece. The glass surface is in good condition with no cracks or chips and only a couple of tiny superficial marks in line with age & wear. At the bottom of each leg there are the original black plastic stoppers.

Packing is offered free of charge. We take special professional care while packing. The glass top would be wrapped in bubble wrap and an outer layer of card. The brass frame would be wrapped in bubble wrap & card. This table would fit easily in a box for safe shipping.

Additional dimensions:

The glass thickness is 10 mm
