Maison Charles chandelier of brass pineapple fronds with 8 arms, 1970’s ca, France.
Thoroughly cleaned, newly rewired, in full working order and ready to install. Light bulbs included.
At the focal point of this vintage chandelier is a cluster of palm leaves or palm fronds typical of Maison Charles’ Regency style. The clever combination of nickel & brass along with different finishes playfully updates this version of a typical chandelier. The result is a naturalistic piece which is elegant & decorative. This chandelier would suite a range of settings such as Traditional, Hollywood Regency, or Industrial
This piece is in keeping with Maison Charles’ quality and attention to detail. The palm fronds are joined together by a brass ring that sits on a highly polished round brass plate which reflects the leaves above. From this centre spreads out & upwards 8 brass tubular arms. Each arm is decorated with 2 palm fronds; one in nickel at the top and another in brass at the bottom. The decorative effect adds movement & depth to the overall design. Each arm finishes at the end with a lamp holder covered by a removable solid brass candle cover patterned with textured vertical fluting. The lamp holders sit on a brass bobeche with a decorative pressed linear pattern. At the bottom of the chandelier there is a decorative brass finial in the shape of a pine cone. At the top of the frame, emerging from the cluster of palms there is a solid brass ring to which the brass chain attaches.
The two tone metals, nickel & brass, are enhanced by the combination of satin & polished finishes. The cluster of palm fronds are in brushed brass. The palm leaves decorating the arms are a combination of brushed brass & brushed nickel. Most of the frame is in polished brass such as the round horizontal plates, the tubular arms, bobeches, candle covers & ceiling cup. In the centre there is a decorative vertical band of brushed brass with a trim which contrasts against the polished brass round flat plates.
Carries 8 standard small screw (E14) light bulbs up to 40 Watts each. Presently fitted with clear candle shaped light bulbs as in the photograph, but could take other shaped bulbs.
The brass chain could be made shorter or longer as needed. At the top of the chain there is the original brass ceiling cup which has inside a hook to fit the chandelier to the ceiling.
The frame is in very good condition with a warm patina in line with age giving character to the piece.
Packing is offered free of charge. The frame would be bubble wrapped, the palm leaves would also be wrapped in card and the entire piece safely boxed.
The height of only the frame (without the chain or ceiling cup) is 50 cm.
The length of the brass chain is 100 cm.
