Maison Charles cheval coffee table, brass & Lucite, 1970`s ca, French.

This coffee table has been gently cleaned respecting the vintage patina, it is ready to use.

This vintage coffee table with solid brass horse head columns and Neoclassical design references is similar to the work by French company Maison Charles, the attributed designer.

This example is uniquely large at 140 cm long compared to others of a similar design which are often 120 cm. This large size along with the equestrian sculptured corners give this table a strong masculine presence for a large living room. It would suit a range of interiors such as Antique,Traditional, Hollywood Regency, Post Modern, Industrial or Contemporary.

Attention is drawn to the four horse heads at each corner resting on stepped clear Lucite & brass square plinths. This model is particularly unique with the Lucite plinths rather than wood plinths, which is more commonly seen. The Lucite creates interesting reflections and gives an elegant light look to the composition; the brass horse heads seem floating on the frame.

The quality horse statues support the top glass, each corner screwed in place by solid brass cabochons. The top clear glass is the original with a wide bevelled edge, rounded corners and stamped `Toughened Glass`.

Lower down, there are solid brass double stretchers with a rectangular profile. These connect the plinths and suspend the lower clear glass tier. This glass surface has a thickness of 8 mm and sits safely on 6 brass small brackets.

Underneath each square brass plinth, there is a bunned wooden foot to protect the floor and make this table easy to move.

This vintage coffee table is in very good condition. The solid brass frame is sound & strong. The brass is in good condition with minor rubbing to the lacquer, and tarnished below with age adding character. The 2 original vintage glass tops are in very good condition with no chips or cracks.

Packing is offered free of charge. We take special professional care while packing. The glass top would be removed and wrapped separately in bubble wrap and an outer layer of card. The frame would have bubble wrap and an outer layer of card if necessary. This table could fit easily in a box for safe shipping.

Additional dimensions:

The space between the lower shelf and upper glass surface is 32.5 cm.
