Maison Jansen brass two tier display coffee table, with mirrored top & enclosed shelf, 1970`s ca, French.

Thoroughly cleaned respecting the vintage patina and ready to use.

This generous sized rectangular coffee table, attributed to Maison Jansen, has a shelf which is an enclosed display area. The Neoclassical solid brass frame has ‘rational’ proportions and square section plinth legs. Square detailing is subtly repeated in each corners of the top.

The 2 original glass tops are present. These both have silver mirrored edging which adds depth & additional metallic reflection. The four sides of the compartment are also in clear glass.

This Jansen display coffee table is quite rare compared with the usual sliding top display tables often found. In this example it has a clever way to access the display area. It works as a secret compartment: one of the two horizontal sides of the frame lifts out. This portion of the solid brass frame has a tubular section inside that interlocks within the main frame; designed in a way that when closed, the decorative square corner hides this junction. Once the brass frame is lifted, the vertical portion of the glass easily lifts up allowing access to the display area.

Many quality details are present both in the frame & glass. The two mirrored tops are removeable. Each sits on a solid brass trim that runs along the frames underneath the glass. The vertical side glass panels are secured in place by solid brass vertical guides. The 4 solid brass legs are removable for transport. These four legs finish at the bottom with a solid brass square plinth which add to the stability.

Both glass surfaces are the original and of great quality with a thickness of 8 mm. All the glass surfaces are in very good condition with no chips or damages. The solid brass frame has a great warm antique gold tone, with the original lacquer present. It is in very good condition with some patina and wear on the brass surfaces in line with age.

Packing is offered free of charge. For safe transport the glass tops and one glass side would be removed and wrapped in bubble wrap with an outer layer of card. The brass frame with the 3 remaining glass sides would be wrapped in bubble wrap & an outer layer of card. If necessary this table could be dismantled for transport. The four legs can be removed also from the frame.

Additional dimensions:
The internal display area has a height of 16 cm.
