Orrefors wall lights/sconces in the style of Carl Fagerlund, a pair with glass shells on gilt bronze bases, 1950`s ca, Swedish.
This pair of wall lights has been thoroughly cleaned respecting the vintage patina. They are newly rewired, earthed, PAT tested by an electrician, fully working and ready to install. Each has a new porcelain & brass lamp holder. It is possible to install these lights in other countries although it may be necessary to purchase different light bulbs suitable to local electricity. They can be used with a dimmer.
This pair of vintage lights is attributed to Carl Fagerlund for Orrefors Lighting. They are in keeping with Orrefors` quality & detail. They have several design features: the combination of Regency & Neoclassical styles in a Modernist design concept, elegant proportions, luxury materials, quality casting and heavy weight. They have sculptural clear glass shades with an external gloss finish & internal layers of sparkling glass shards.
The combination of Modernist & Neoclassical style along with the shell design makes this pair of wall lights a unique addition to a range of interiors such as Art Deco, Seaside, Mid-Century Modern, Hollywood Regency, 70`s Glamour, Traditional or Contemporary. They are suitable for the bathroom.
The central base is solid gilt bronze with a satin finish. From here extends a single arm of thin rectangular section. This curves upwards to complete the shell design. The base is an elongated oval. It is stepped with softened edges and beaded trim. At the top portion there is a hole to secure the light to the wall. There is an additional smaller hole on the bottom portion that allows for a pull cord switch.
Each clear glass shade has a textured shell shape and positioned facing down. The upper edge of the glass shell curves slightly outwards to finish the design, the bottom edge curves inwards and is wider to cover the lightbulb and diffuse the light. The shades have an external gloss finish while internally there is a layer of sparkling crystal shards creating depth & reflections. The glass shade securely attaches to the arm by one external decorative brass bolt. This screws internally to the arm & a back brass nut. Two clear plastic washers positioned at either side of the shade protect the glass. There are also two clear vinyl stoppers fitted on the arm keeping the shade securely in place. The shade is removable for cleaning & packing.
The new lamp holder is porcelain & brass. This sits on the cylindrical horizontal arm, attached to the base, facing upwards. Each lamp holder carries a small standard screw light bulb E14 up to 60 Watts each. At present fitted with Candle clear light bulbs of 28 Watts (as photographed), which are included in the price. These lights could take other E14 light bulb shapes for a different look.
These lights are both in very good condition. The 2 glass shades are in very good condition with no chips or cracks, only minor wear along the holes in line with age & wear. The gilt bronze frames are sound and in very good condition, with minor marks & patina in line with age.
