Pair antique gilt bronze dolphins/koi fish candlestick table lamps, Maison Charles, 1920`s ca, French.

This pair of antique lamps have been gently cleaned while respecting the aged patina. They are newly rewired, earthed, PAT tested by an electrician and ready to use. Each has the following new components: lamp holder with a cream card cover, gold silk cable, white cord switch and white plug (UK Plug up to 250V). Lightbulbs included. These lamps can be used with a dimmer. It is possible to use these lights in other countries with a light bulb suitable to local electricity.

Presented here is a fine pair of  early 20th Century antique lamps attributed to Maison Charles of Paris. They were originally manufactured as lamps. They have several design features typical of Maison Charles: the dolphin theme, the combination of Regency & Neoclassical styles simplified in a Modernist design, elegant proportions, luxury materials, quality crisp casting and heavy weight. They are both stamped `MADE IN FRANCE` & the model number `12` on the reverse of the handle.

The dolphin theme has been used regularly over the years in France. This design gets the inspiration from the French Empire Period style of the 19th Century.

The elongated form & elegant proportions make these lamps well proportioned for the bedside, mantelpiece or corridor. The design is classic, timeless & decorative. They would suit a range of interiors such as Antique, Art Deco, Traditional, Hollywood Regency, Post Modern, Industrial or Contemporary.

The composition of each candlestick lamp consists of a dolphin sitting on a round concave base. The base has a handle with foliate decoration. The gilt bronze heavy pedestal base makes this lamps strong & stable. It has new green felt underneath to protect the furniture below. The edge of the base has a delicate geometric pattern that is repeated on the drip pan. Further concentric lines and a swirling banding pattern complete the design. The sculptural fish in gilt bronze becomes the column graduating to the shoulder, drip pan & the new lamp holder, covered by a new cream card candle tube.

These lamps were individually handmade so there are minor variations in design & proportions.

Each lamp carries 1 standard small screw light bulb (E14) up to 40 Watts. At present they are fitted & photographed with pearl Golf shaped light bulbs of 25 Watts. These bulbs are included in the price.

Each lamp is finished with a vintage clip-on cream silk candle lampshade. The shade is tapered and has wide pleat detailing, complete with a crepe trim top and bottom. It is lined in white which enhances the glow of light.

These antique lamps are in very good condition for their age. The frames are sound with no damages or broken parts. The metal surfaces overall are in very good condition with the original antique patina preserved, adding character & depth. There are minor superficial marks & patination in places in line with age. The 2 vintage lampshades are in good condition with no cuts or damages, only some superficial rubbing to the fabric and minor marks (such as a few tiny dots hardly noticeable), all in line with age & wear.

Additional dimensions:
