Pair vintage palm tree wall lights sconces, Sciolari style, crystal on gold plated gilt frames, 1970`s ca, Italian.

These vintage wall lights have been gently cleaned while respecting the aged patina. They are newly rewired & earthed, PAT tested by an electrician and ready to install. New decorative Candle clear flame tip shaped light bulbs included. It is possible to use these sconces in other countries although it may be necessary to purchase different light bulbs suitable to local electricity. These lights can be use with a dimmer.

While these lights are not stamped or have any old labels attached, they have many of the features of the designs of Gaetano Sciolari: quality crystals on gold plated frame, complementary polished & matt finishes on a sleek Modernist design.
They are in the style of `Deconstructivism`. The component parts have been delineate and executed in different materials (textured brass, gold gilt & crystal) to accentuate this fragmentation. The result, part Minimalist part Cubist, is interesting, sophisticated & sculptural.

The combination of luxury materials, classical form, elegant proportions & sleek sculptural design make these wall lights suitable for a range of interiors such as Antique, Art Deco, Traditional, Hollywood Regency, or Contemporary.

At the centre of each frame there is a circular base in highly polished gold plated gilt metal.

From this base there is a trapezoid volume with two extending arms attached playfully in the shape of oversized rings. Tangent to the ring is the tubular column in a polished gold finish which leads to the lamp holder. Either side of the column the `wave-like` crystals in the shape of palm leaves insert, two either side of the column. They alternate creating movement. These quality crystals have an `optical` quality adding depth & reflections, and they have a good weight. There are 4 crystal shades per sconce for a total of 8 crystal shades.

The junctions of the rings and crystals to the columns are detailed with a textured & matt finish brutalist frame. At the bottom of the column is a finial with a similar textured matt finish. This combination of polished & matt finishes, typical of Sciolari`s designs creates different reflections & depth.

To fit the frames to the wall there are two holes on each round frame from which two brass decorative pegs screw to a removable grey metal bracket on the back. This metal bracket has 2 holes through which it is screwed to the wall.

Each wall light carries 2 standard small screw light bulbs (E14) up to 40 Watts. At present these lights are fitted & photographed with new decorative warm white dimmable Philips LED Candle clear flame tip shaped light bulbs of 25 Watts. These are included in the price. It would be possible to use any other (E14) Candle light bulbs for a different look, or to add clip-on lampshades.

This pair of sconces is in good vintage condition. All the original crystals are present and in very good condition with no chips or cracks. The frames are sound with no damages. The warm vintage patina has been preserved on the metal. The gilt finish is in good condition and uniform, with some age patina such as minor rubbing, light very subtle tiny marks in places. All the crystals are in very good condition with no chips or cracks. All in line with age & wear.

Additional dimensions:

The total dimensions with the lightbulbs on is: Height: 35.5 cm, Width: 35 cm, Depth: 19 cm.

The frame alone without the lightbulbs is: Height: 26 cm, Width: 35 cm, Depth: 19 cm.

The round base that attaches to the wall has a diameter of 11 cm.
