Palwa chandelier optical crystals on a gilt plated brass frame, 1970`s ca, Germany.
Palwa chandeliers are well known for the quality of the crystals and originality of design. In this case the Modernist quality 24 Karat gold plated brass frame is elegantly decorated with an interesting geometric pattern. The drum form is divided into numerous square cells in four horizontal rows. Quality crystals are fitted in alternate sizes, one small, one big. The top and bottom rows have only big crystals alternating with empty spaces creating movement and depth. The quality crystals have been polished in a square optical pattern to beautifully reflect the light. Another secondary frame hooks underneath the main frame attaching to the 5 arms. Designed to both cover the bulbs as well as to enhance the decorative view from the bottom. This lower portion of the frame has 4 concentric tiers where the
crystals have a sequenced pattern of all large square crystals. Alternate ones are in a gold gilt metal box frame. At the centre bottom of the frame there is a brass gilt finial to finish the design. The chandelier carries horizontally 10 standard small screw light bulbs (E14) up to 40 Watts each, presently photographed with Pygmy 15 Watts clear light bulbs, but could take other type of light bulbs for more illumination. The lower part of the frame of 4 tiers can be unhooked and removed to access the light bulbs and for easy transport. The solid brass chain can be shortened or lengthened and is finished at the top with a brass plated ceiling cup. Inside the ceiling cup there is a hook to secure this chandelier to the ceiling. All the crystals are in excellent condition. The frame is in very good condition. Newly rewired, in full working order and ready to use.
