Palwa cheval mirror, gold plated gilt frame with 60 crystal flowers & beads, 1970`s ca, German.
This mirror has been thoroughly cleaned respecting the antique patina and is ready to use.
Palwa is well known for its super quality items which combine Modernist lines with luxury materials like gold & crystal. This mirror has the same features presented uniquely in a floor mirror.
With that extra `fairy tale` touch 24 crystal flowers & 36 crystal `buds` decorate a traditional cheval mirror. The composition is sculptural & practical making this piece a unique addition to a bedroom, entrance or retail shop.
The oblong quality frame has a highly polished surface. It is decorated around with gilt & crystal `flowers` and `buds`.
There are 24 flowers each made up of 8 octagonal crystals as the `pedals` of a flower. The center of the flower is finished with a gold plated oval detail bolting the flower securely in place. Unscrewing this bolt allows the flower to be removed.
Between each of these crystal flowers there is a decorative detail of 2 stems finished with a crystal bead `bud`. There are a total of 24 of these.
The mirror is oblong and this shape is repeated in the base. The base surface is satin finish in the center surrounded by a highly polished golden tone band. The base is weighted making this mirror very stable on the floor.
From the base there are two gilt columns rising to hold the mirror. Rising from the plinth of each column are 6 winding stems climbing upwards, each finished with a crystal bead for a total of 12. The top of each column has a decorative gilt finial.
On either side of the column there is a flower shaped handle which screws tightly to adjust & position the mirror. The mirror is also held in place on the
reverse side by two safety horizontal pegs.
The back of the mirror portion has a highly polished gilt metal surface.
The silver portion of the mirror has an excellent vertical size. It is possible to see yourself fully reflected when standing in front.
This vintage cheval mirror is in very good condition.
All the flowers are present with all the crystals in place. The silver portion of the mirror is original and in very good condition with no scratches or chips. The frame has minor marks on the gilt in line with age; on the base & the reverse side of the mirror. The columns have minor rubbing at the point where the crystal stems wind around.
Packing is offered free of charge. For safe transport the flowers would be removed & wrapped individually. The mirror would be bubble wrapped with an outer layer of card.
