Peter Ghyczy style coffee table, frameless design with brass legs & quality glass top, 1990`s ca Dutch.
This coffee table has been gently cleaned while respecting the vintage patina, it is ready to use.
Peter Ghyczy, is one of the pioneers of the floating glass table during the Post Modern period. His designs are known for the iconic clamp technique along with quality caste metals as in this example in brass. The legs are hand caste by local craftsmen. Columns of highly polished brass with decorative textured inserts which appear to frame the design. The result gives architectural presence and depth.
This vintage table in the manner of Ghyczy, has many of his design features, and
would complement a range of interiors such as Art Deco, Hollywood Regency, Brutalist, 70`s Glamour, Post Modern, Industrial or Contemporary.
This table features Ghyczy`s patented clamping technique, characterised by the glass top inserting into each cast leg. The legs are solid rectangular column forms with a diagonal at the top in polished brass covering each corner of the glass top. In this case there are three plastic screws per leg clamping the glass top from beneath. The result is a `clean` design which is also sturdy.
This vintage coffee table is in very good condition. The frame is sound & strong. The brass is in very good condition with a warm patina in places in line with age. The quality glass top
with a thickness of 1.8 cm
is the original to the piece. The glass is in good condition with no cracks or chips around the edges and only a tiny nibble to the glass on the underside however this is hardly noticeable, as photographed.
Packing is offered free of charge. We take special professional care while packing. The glass top would be wrapped in bubble wrap and an outer layer of card. If necessary the legs could be easily unscrewed and also wrapped in bubble wrap & card. This table would fit easily in a box for safe shipping.

PETER GHYCZY BIOGRAPHY
Peter Ghyczy was born in 1940 Budapest. He studied architecture with an industrial design background at the Polytechnic University Aachen.
