This elegant pair of vintage wall lights by Gaetano Sciolari are a reinterpretation of the traditional Neoclassical sconce. Key design features such as the swag & scroll form are kept simple for a Modern clean look. They have Italian craftsmanship and attention to detail, emphasized with the use of polished & satin gilt finishes. The metal frames are quality cast and have a good weight. This design would suit a range of interiors such as Antique, Traditional, Hollywood Regency, Post Modern, or Contemporary.
These vintage lights have both the original maker`s label `SCIOLARI ROMA` still attached behind each round base. Each wall bracket is also stamped `SCIOLARI`, as photographed.
The frames are in gilt brass, there is a clever use of polished & satin finishes in the design. At the centre of each frame there is a cartouche body in satin finish with an embossed decorative effect trim in polished finish.
From this base spreads out 2 scrolling arms in polished finish. These rise slightly upwards, each holding a bobeche in a satin finish with a polished beaded trim. On the bobeche there is the new lamp holder & removable cover with a satin reeded finish and two horizontal bands. Under the bobeche there is a long decorative finial with a twisted rope design also in a satin finish. Between the arms runs a `string of beads`. The contrast between the satin & polished finishes creates different reflections and depth.
To fit the frames to the wall there are two holes on each round frame from which two brass decorative pegs screw to a metal plate on the back. This metal plate has 2 holes through which it is screwed to the wall.
Each light is finished with a new clip-on black silk lampshade. These have black fabric trim and metallic gold lining.
Each wall light carries 2 standard small screw light bulbs (E14) up to 40 Watts. At present fitted & photographed with Candle Clear shaped light bulbs of 28 Watts. These are included in the price. It is possible to use other shape E14 bulbs.
These sconces could be installed also without lampshades for a more traditional look.
