Spanish Revival lantern sconce/wall light, patinated copper tole with glass, 1970`s ca, Spanish.
This vintage light has been gently cleaned while respecting the aged patina. It is newly rewired & earthed, PAT tested by an electrician and ready to install. It has new black silk electrical cable. This lamp could be used with a dimmer. It is possible to use this lamp in other countries with a light bulb suitable to local electricity.
This vintage lantern was handmade with great craftmanship and attention to detail. Its delicate proportions and decorative value would make it a unique focal point. It would complement a range of interiors such as Antique, Arts & Crafts, Traditional, Hollywood Regency & Contemporary.
The design theme has many Spanish & Latin American symbols: the sacred heart, the orb, the flaming sun. There are also references to ancient Aztec jewelry, such as the numerous geometric patterns and the dangling pieces.
The composition is a slightly curved rhomboid base suspending a hanging lantern. The tin metal surfaces are patinated, with accents in a copper finish.
The lantern itself has four side glass panels. Each panel has a different texture & colour: green, amber, red & clear. The lantern can be removed and turn in different positions.
The lamp holder sits inside the lantern. It fits a small standard screw light bulb (E14) up to 40 Watts. At present it is fitted with a Pygmy clear light bulb of 25 Watts (as photographed), which is included in the price.
On the reverse of the base there is a flat metal plate attached with one hole to hang the light to the wall.
This vintage sconce is in very good condition for its age. The original patinated copper finish in good condition with minor minor rubbing & marks. The four glass panels are in very good condition with no chips or cracks, only tiny rubbing on the red glass panel, in line with age & wear.

SPANISH REVIVAL INTERIORS HISTORY
In the United States, the Panama - California Exposition of 1915 in San Diego, highlighting the work of architect Bertram Goodhue, gave the style national exposure. Favoured principally in California and Florida, the Spanish Revival movement enjoyed its greatest popularity between 1915 and 1931. It reemerged in the 1970`s also in Europe.
In Mexico, the Spanish Colonial Revival in architecture was related to the nationalist movement in arts. The Mexican style was influenced by the Baroque architecture & ancient local cultures like the Aztecs. The American interpretation in Mexico was locally named Colonial Californiano.
Today, Spanish Revival design in Southern California and Florida largely descends from the early movement. Spanish Revival interiors provide a synthesis of earthen elements and old world refinement, recalling a warm Mediterranean informality. Spanish Revival furniture & lighting provide rustic textures with traditional historic & Folk Art decorative motifs.
