Trifari key brooch, sterling
silver with gold gilt, 1940
`s ca, USA. The head of this Trifari key pin has a number of pave set & bezel set rhinestones along with blue & red cabouchons. The key shaft is decorated with long red rectangular brilliant cut gemstones along with spaced sections of pave set white rhinestones. The end of the key is composed of pave set white rhinestones and prong set baguette cut gemstones. This Trifari pin is in good condition and has a working clasp. Stamped `Trifari` with a crown above the `T` and `Sterling. Gift box included.
The metal composition for this vintage Trifari brooch is referred to as vermeil which is sterling silver coated with gold. To be considered vermeil, the gold must be at least 10 carat (42%) and at least 2.5 micrometres thick. Vermeil was used in the 1940`s when resources were limited and this is part of it`s appeal to collectors.
