Trifari sterling earrings with sapphire blue glass cabochon designed by Alfred Philippe, 1945, USA.
These highly collectible earrings from Trifari`s Crown Jewel series are constructed of polished vermeil gold gilt solid silver. At the focal point is a large prong set faux sapphire blue glass cabochon from which swirls a pattern decorated with a faceted sparkling ruby red rhinestone, and on top of the swirl are round pave sparkling diamond rhinestones. Attached is a polished gold tone cushion clip stamped Trifari with a crown, the framed is stamped sterling, Des Patent and the number 143989. A copy of the patent for this design is photographed; this patent was applied for in July 1945 and granted in February 1946. Also attached is an original Trifari advertisement for the Crown Jewel Series. These earrings are in good vintage condition, all stones are present and original. There is some rubbing to the gilt as expected with this age. This design was typically sold and worn with the matching

Vermeil is sterling silver coated with gold. To be considered vermeil, the gold must be at least 10 carat (42%) and be at least 2.5 micrometres thick. Vermeil was used in the 1940`s when resources were limited and this is part of it`s appeal to collectors.
