Trifari sword pin in sterling silver vermeil by Alfred Philippe, 1944, USA. This fantastic Trifari dagger is made up of sterling silver covered in gold vermeil and adorned with pave set white rhinestones on the handle. The guard is decorated with two prong set sapphire blue coloured glass cabochons each finished with a bezel set white rhinestone. The hilt or handle tip has two prong set red cabochons and a bezel set white rhinestone. The back of this Trifari sword brooch is signed "Trifari Sterling" and "Des Pat. No. 138522" which dates this item to 1944. Very good vintage condition with original stones and age related wear to the vermeil. Gift box included.
Vermeil is sterling silver coated with gold. To be considered vermeil, the gold must be at least 10 carat (42%) and be at least 2.5 micrometres thick. Vermeil was used in the 1940`s when resources were limited and this is part of it`s appeal to collectors.
