Venini Murano Glass hat lamp on a brass base, 1970`s ca, Italian.
This table lamp has been gently cleaned while respecting the vintage patina. It is newly rewired & earthed, fully working and PAT tested by an electrician. It has a new E 14 brass lamp holder, black cord switch, golden silk cable & new black plug. Light bulb included. It is possible to use this lamp in other countries although it may be necessary to purchase a different light bulb suitable to local electricity.
Although unmarked, this elegant vintage table lamp has many of the features of the work of the Italian Company Venini, the attributed manufacturer. The company is known for its sculptural glass hat designs from the 1950`s.
The lamp is composed of two parts: the decorative removable Murano glass hat & the minimalist solid brass frame.
Appearing to float in space this illuminated hat would be a playful addition to a range of Interiors such as Art Deco, Hollywood Regency, 70`s Glamour, Post-Modern or Contemporary.
The Murano Art glass hat is in a shade of orange/yellow & white tones, made with the famous Italian "incamiciato" technique. This is a glass consisting of two superimposed layers of lattimo glass and of coloured transparent glass.
The outside layer is in orange/yellow while the inside of the hat is lighter, almost white. The hat is decorated with a handmade black glass bow. The hat has on the outside at the top a small flat surface that allows it to stand alone, turned around, as a decoration on a table.
The removable glass hat sits securely onto the polished brass base through a solid brass round stand, working as a gasket. This fits perfectly inside the diameter of the hat, which is fitted to the main frame by 3 curved brass arms. At the centre of these arms there is one brass lamp holder with a brass cover. It carries one E 14 light bulb up to 60 Watts. At present fitted & photographed with a Candle clear light bulb of 25 Watts, which is included in the price.
The frame continues downwards as a column in polished brass. At the bottom there is a round solid polished brass plate, which is weighted for good stability. The flat surface underneath has black felt to protect furniture.
This vintage table lamp is in very good condition. The glass shade is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. The polished brass surfaces have no dents or marks and only a warm patina in line with age.
Packing is offered free of charge. We take special professional care while packing. For safe transport the lampshade would be removed and packed separately with bubble wrap and an outer layer of card & foam. The base would be packed similarly. Both parts would fit easily in a box with loose fill packing material ideal for posting or shipping.

PAOLO VENINI - THE VENINI HISTORY
Paolo Venini (1895 – 1959) emerged as one of the leading figures in the production of Murano Glass and an important contributor to Twentieth Century Design. He soon developed an acquaintance with Giacomo Cappellin, a native of Venice who owned a Milan antique shop. In 1921 Venini & Cappellin opened a glass factory on the islands of Murano, under the name Vetri Soffiati Muranesi Cappellin Venini & Co . The firm also benefited from a commitment to introducing new, modern design concepts.
Cappellin left the firm in 1925, taking most of the firm`s master glassblowers and launching a competitor firm. Venini reorganized first as Soffiati Muranesi Venini & Co., and later as Venini & Co., achieving a position as a design leader among the Murano Art Glass firms. Venini himself played a role in designing several of the firm`s best-known products, including the famous "fazzoletto" (handkerchief) series, created in partnership with Italian designer Fulvio Bianconi.
Following Venini`s death in 1959, the firm was initially continued by other family members and finally sold in 1985.
