Vintage bronze dolphins coffee table, referred also as koi coffee table, attributed to Maison Charles, 1960`s ca, French.
This vintage table has been gently cleaned while respecting the aged patina. It is ready to use.
This coffee table is attributed to Maison Charles of Paris. It has several design features typical of Maison Charles: the dolphin theme, the combination of Regency & Neoclassical styles simplified in a Modernist design, elegant proportions, luxury materials, crisp casting and heavy weight.
The dolphin theme has been used regularly over the years in France. This design gets the inspiration from the French Empire center table of the 19th Century. In the antique tables the dolphins were carved from wood on a bronze tripartite base and the table top was of marble.
This design is classic, timeless and decorative. With the fish theme and strong sculptural presence it would suit a range of interiors such as Antique, Art Deco, Traditional, Hollywood Regency, Post Modern, Industrial or Contemporary.
The bronze heavy pedestal base makes this table strong & stable.
The composition consists of three dolphins made of solid polished brass sitting on a black tripartite solid bronze base. In the centre of the base there is a round hole keeping the visual effect `light`. The edge of the base is stepped. The patinated bronze surface beautifully contrasts with the golden brass surfaces of the fish. The fish sculptures can be removed from the pedestal base if required as each is screwed in place from underneath by two bolts.
The dolphin tails support the vintage clear glass table top. It is of round shape and is original to the piece, with a
diameter of 90 cm &
thickness of 12 mm. It has a polished edge.
This table is in good vintage condition. The frame is stable & strong.
The vintage patina has been preserved. For example the fish sculptures have the original lacquer present on the brass, with minor superficial marks. The patinated bronze surfaces are in good condition, also with minor superficial marks, all in line with age & wear. The glass top is in fair condition with scratches and a few nibbles along the flat surface & edge, (some photographed).

Packing is offered free of charge. We take special professional care with packing. For safe transport the base will be wrapped separately in bubble wrap, foam and an outer layer of card, then fit into a box with loose cushioning.
