Vintage drinks trolley bar cart in chrome, gold plated gilt metal frame & glass tops by Renato Zevi, 1970`s ca, Italian.

This vintage trolley has been gently cleaned while respecting the aged patina. It is ready to use.

The simplicity of this design is enhanced by the highly polished chrome frame with gold plated metal trim. The contrast between the highly polished chrome against the satin finished gold toned metal creates depth and interesting reflections. The clear glass shelves are practical but keeps the design `clean` & minimalist.

This vintage two tier trolley was purchased from the first owner who originally bought it from Harrods in the 1970`s. It would bring the party to a range of interiors including Art Deco, 1950`s Atomica, Hollywood Regency, 70`s Glamour, Brutalist and Contemporary.

The rectangular frame is stable and has a good weight. It consists of polished chrome plated steel with square profile. The four vertical columns are finished at the top corners with the typical Zevi square detail.
The frame is enhanced with a gilt metal trim in a satin finish of similar but smaller proportions. The comparable proportions subtly enhances the simple design. This is also achieved from the contrasting polished tone next to satin finish further.

There is a removable bottom shelf and a removable top surface, both of toughened quality 6 mm clear glass & polished edge, original vintage to the piece. The clear glass keeps the appearance `light` & `airy`. The glass tops rest flush inside the frame contributing to the minimalist design.

Looking at the bottom there are four casters of metallic polished chrome, original vintage to the piece. These roll smoothly.

This trolley is in good vintage condition. The frame is sturdy with no missing parts. There is some age patina, light rubbing in places & superficial marks to the chrome and gilt finishes, commensurate with age. There is light superficial pitting to the chrome in a few places most notably the underside which has been treated. The glass tops are in good condition with no chips or cracks, only superficial scratches & rubbing in line with use.

Additional dimensions:

The space between the glass shelves is: 60 cm

Packing is offered free of charge. We take special professional care with packing. For safe transport the frame will be wrapped separately in bubble wrap & foam. The glass tops will be wrapped similarly & adding  an outer layer of card . Together these pieces would easily fit into a box with loose cushioning for secure shipping with a courier. RENATO ZEVI HISTORY

Renato Zevi (1951-2018) was an Italian industrial designer born in Rome. He studied architecture at Rome`s La Sapienza University, graduating in 1976.

Early in his career, Zevi worked as an architect, but soon turned to industrial design. He founded his own design studio in 1983, which quickly gained a reputation for its innovative and creative approach to design.

Best known for his inimitable Ellipse rocking chair, Italian furniture designer Renato Zevi worked with gilt metal and brass, lacquered wood and mirrored glass to create sleek, sensual and glamorous pieces befitting the Hollywood Regency style. Through his firm Zevi and Co., he designed the Ellipse chair for the Selig Furniture Company, an American manufacturer and importer known for being among the first to introduce European modern furniture to USA.

Zevi also collaborated with Italian furniture designer Romeo Rega, creating elegant bookcases and vitrines with gilt brass frames and smoked glass or crystal glass shelves. Collaborations with companies include Flos, Artemide, Alessi and Driade.

Over the years, Zevi has received numerous awards and distinctions for his work, including the Compasso d`Oro in 1987 for his "Conica" lamp for the Nemo company, and in 2001 for his "Tabouret" for the Driade company. His work is exhibited in museums and galleries around the world, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Centre Pompidou in Paris.

Renato Zevi also taught industrial design at Rome`s La Sapienza University and took part in design conferences around the world. He passed away in 2018 at the age of 67. Zevi’s designs live on with Hollywood Regency decorators, collectors and design enthusiasts.
