Vintage Art Deco pair of gold plated gilt cufflinks with a reverse hand decorated painted transfer portrait of `The Laughing Cavalier` & signed after Dutch artist Franz Hals (1584-1666). They are presented within the original vintage box form the retailer.
The face of each cufflink has a transfer portrait of the Laughing Cavalier that has been coloured and decorated with quality detail in oils by hand & signed. The tones are warm & vibrant creating depth, in shades of red, brown, white, black & gold
The oval vertical quality frame in gold gilt is enclosed & sealed in convex glass. The outer edge frame has a further decorative trim at top & bottom, continuing with
a scrolling pattern at either side. This form creates a sense of `movement`.
On the back there is a toggle clasp in gilt metal. The post is stamped " PAT.APP" (Patent Applied).
These cufflinks come with their original vintage box from the retailer Smith & Smith LTD from Bridport, Dorset, England. This quality box is in hard black leatherette with white dots & a gold metallic trim.
The original vintage Stratton De-Luxe card presentation label is included.
This pair of vintage cufflinks is in very good condition for their age with no missing or broken parts. The toggle clasps are tight & fully working. The warm vintage patina has been preserved. The gilt & glass surfaces are
in almost `like-new` condition with very tiny light marks or rubbing. The vintage box is in good condition, with minor age marks & rubbing, all in line with age & wear.
Packing is offered free of charge. We take special professional care while packing. For safe transport the boxed cufflinks would be wrapped in bubble wrap & foam. It would be then put into another box with loose fill packing nuts, safe for posting with a courier. We ship with reliable couriers (signed for, tracked & insured).

STRATTON JEWELLERY HISTORY
Stratton is a famous brand of powder compacts, lipstick holders and other devices and containers for cosmetics, made in Birmingham, England. They also made quality luxury costume jewellery.
Founded in 1860 as Stratnoid, they initially made knitting needles. It changed later its name to Stratton. In 1920 merged with Jarrett and Rainsford forming a company named Jarrett, Rainsford and Laughton Ltd.. They traded as Stratton and as Stratton of Mayfair, changing hands several times before finally closing in 1997.
THE LAUGHING CAVALIER BY FRANZ HALS
The Laughing Cavalier is a famous portrait by the Dutch Golden Age painter Franz Hals (1584-1666)
in the Wallace Collection in London, which has been described as "one of the most brilliant of all Baroque portraits".
